U.S. Congresswoman from Oregon Congratulates Tongue Point Graduates

Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) of Oregon wasn’t able to attend Tongue Point Job Corps’ August graduation ceremony—so she sent the following letter recognizing the graduates for their many achievements:

August 16, 2019

Dear Friends,

Congratulations on your graduation today! I’m sorry I can’t be here in person to celebrate with you. I am sure that today will be just one of many accomplishments you will achieve through hard work and dedication.

Job Corps programs are essential to building the workforce our economy needs and expanding opportunities for everyone. For more than 50 years, Job Corps has successfully educated and trained millions of young adults for jobs in high-demand fields. In Congress I am proud to advocate for Job Corps and will continue to advocate for resources and funding for these proven, valuable programs.

You already know this, but the programs here at Tongue Point Job Corps Center are special. As the fifth-ranked Center in the nation for the second year in a row, Tongue Point is an example of workforce education at its finest. This ranking is based on the success of past graduates in attaining and maintaining employment. Thanks to your hard work and this high-quality program, you have what you need to thrive and succeed-wherever you go and wherever your path takes you.

As a community college graduate, I know how important it is to invest in education. Through your hard work here, you have invested in your future and expanded your horizon. I applaud your efforts.

The 21st Century economy needs workers and craftspeople like you. You will create and maintain essential new buildings; provide dental care and health care to keep our communities healthy; and support maritime trade and commerce. Your work will make a difference to the people you serve and the organizations that are lucky enough to hire you. And importantly, I hope that each and every one of you builds a life that will make a difference to your communities. You have so many talents to offer the world, including your unique perspective as Job Corps graduates and the strengths and lessons you have acquired on this journey.

It is truly an honor to represent you in the United States Congress. To each and every graduate, my heartfelt and sincere congratulations!
