Josiah Murrell has been at MTC’s Wilmington Job Corps Center in Delaware. He’s in the office administration program.

“I didn’t have a lot of plans. I didn’t know where I was going. I had no direction, really.”

But a close friend introduced him to Job Corps. It was working well for her.

“It gave her a sense of direction. She works in a nursing home right now with kids. She loves what she’s doing. She’s enjoying the path that she’s on. And seeing her happy, I wanted to be just as happy, and I decided to do Job Corps myself.”

He’s learned a lot in just a few short months.

“I thought I knew Microsoft Word—found out I knew nothing about it.”

He also discovered that he wasn’t the hardest worker before Job Corps.

“I would get into a project or a job or something, and once I didn’t really like it, I would tend to fall back or not work as hard.”

Now Josiah has three certifications in office administration and four more to go before graduation.

“A lot of young people, especially after they leave high school or if they no able to attend high school or if they leave college for a reason, we don’t have a lot of direction. Job Corps gives people my age, and young a little older, a sense of direction.”

His next stop is college.

“Go back to school eventually, finish getting my bachelors and then go to law school and become a lawyer. That’s one dream of mine.”
