Location: St. Louis Job Corp Center (St. Louis, Missouri)

Reports to the programs director. Directly supervises the testing coordinator, academic instructors, scheduling clerk, substitute instructors and secretary.  Responsible for the management of academic programs in compliance with government and management directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and programmatic activities of the academic department.
  2. Monitor and manage all instructors within the academic department to ensure full compliance regarding teaching strategies and classroom management.
  3. Facilitate weekly meetings with staff members to review center goals, outcomes, expectations as well as new center initiatives.
  4. Ensure all property is accounted for in all classroom areas.
  5. Assist in the preparation of the departmental budget, monitor and control expenditures. Review and recommend changes to budget authorizations.
  6. Ensure classroom observations are completed on a quarterly basis using the MTC classroom observation form.
  7. Ensure proper data integrity of all Academic testing processes.
  8. Ensure the use of TABE diagnostics for student placement in reading and math classes.
  9. Attend all CIC and CRC meetings to ensure industry compliance.
  10. Ensure that appropriate and timely student schedule changes are submitted for accountability and compliance with maximum benefits scheduling.   Monitor and assist with the student accountability system as it relates to Academic standards and training.
  11. Ensure all staff members receive the necessary training for their position to include teaching strategies, classroom methodology, and interactive teaching.
  12. Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.
  13. Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  14. Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  15. Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  16. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  17. Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience, one of which should be supervisory. Experience working with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency also required. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
