Approximately 50 women at the Willacy County Regional Detention Facility in Raymondville, TX donated items they crocheted to community agencies including senior care centers and a family-crisis center. The donations included hats, scarfs, booties, blankets, and purses.

“Our clients are very happy,” says Edelmira Barajas of the Amigos Del Valle Adult Daycare Center. “It was winter. They [clients] were cold. They immediately started using them, and they enjoy them. They like them very much.”

The agencies which received the donations praised the women for their work, and emphasized that the donations benefit more than the recipients.

Alyssa Hernandez of the Willacy County Family Crisis Center adds,

“It helps them bring out their talent and creativity which is very good for self-esteem building. And, also at the same time, these items they’re creating help people in need.”
