A City Park Beautified Thanks to Billy Moore Residents

The City of Overton, Texas recently partnered with MTC’s Billy Moore Correctional Center to beautify the city park.

Budget constraints have made it tough for the city to properly maintain its park, so residents at Billy Moore, under the direction of Officer Donald Whitehead, went into action.

The group of residents put in more than 1,200 hours of service mowing, removing weeds and brush, and landscaping the park.

Jonathan Franklin, who works for the City of Overton, says the residents have done an amazing job.

“It’s been a great opportunity working with these guys, helping them to get ready to be back out in the world. And we really appreciate all the help. They’ve done a lot of things for us, and they’ve done a really good job so far. I’ve enjoyed working with these guys a lot.”

“This has been an experience of a lifetime,” says Officer Whitehead. “I’ve got a group of guys that have put their heart and soul into reclaiming the park for the City of Overton. The completion of this project will be good for the residents, great for the community, and wonderful for local children.”
