MTC’s Willacy County Regional Detention Facility in Raymondville, Texas, has a legacy of providing excellent care to detainees, as well as rehabilitative opportunities.

“I’ve been here for two months,” says Jose Caxaj-Alvarez, a detainee housed at Willacy County.  “This is the first place that I’ve ever seen where they have a lot of good programs for detainees.”

Jose recently joined Warden John Ybarra to thank staff for making a difference in the lives of detainees. Some detainees made rice crispy treats for staff while others, like Mr. Caxaj-Alvarez, helped with a BBQ.

“We’re doing this to thank all of the staff here at Willacy,” he said, taking a break from grilling hamburgers.  “To thank them for the way they treat us.”
