Victims’ Rights Advocates Say Imperial Facility Offers Detainees “A Lot of Incentives”
Sure Helpline Crisis Center, of El Centro, CA, recently visited MTC’s Imperial Regional Detention Facility in Calexico, CA to visit with detainees during the holidays. The agency, which is a resource for sexual assault victims, wanted to provide support and encouragement to the men and women. A couple members of the organization took some time to explain their impressions of the facility.
“The team that they have at this facility is a great team,” said Sergio Estrada. “They have various programs, a lot of incentives for all the detainees that they can enjoy. They can break barriers between them because the opportunities the facility gives them is a great opportunity for them to keep growing.”
Monique Rogers stated,
“The first thing I noticed about the facility is how respectful and how welcoming the staff is. The second thing is how clean and good the food is. I did notice that they’re very respectful about each other’s culture and the foods that they’re allowed to eat, due to their culture. And how sensitive they are.”
