MTC President Shares COVID-19 Update with Valued Partners

As all of us make our way through the many challenges of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we hope you and your families remain healthy and safe. Like the rest of the country, MTC has been adjusting its operations to reduce the risk of coronavirus exposure to its staff, those in our care, and the community.

We have worked extensively with public health officials, followed the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and have taken every precautionary measure to protect the health of our staff, those we serve, and our communities. At this point, we are not aware of any confirmed cases of COVID-19 among our students, offenders, or detainees.

Job Corps students were sent home on spring break March 17 and were instructed to remain at home through April 14 because of COVID-19. About 175 students with no home to return to remain at the centers we operate. Job Corps staff are largely working from home, with a few essential security and facility staff working at centers.

Our correctional and detention facilities have suspended all non-essential visits indefinitely, per customer directives. All staff and essential visitors are being screened daily including taking people’s temperatures. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher is not allowed to enter the facility. Our facilities are equipped with negative pressure rooms and other features that allow us to quarantine individuals who become symptomatic. Again, at this point there are no confirmed cases of the coronavirus among the men and women we serve.

The MTC corporate office has created a coronavirus committee which meets regularly via video conferencing to assess the COVID-19 situation and to make adjustments as needed. We have created a coronavirus update page on our website to keep staff, loved ones of those we serve, our partners, and the general public informed regarding what we are doing to keep people safe. Click here to visit the MTC coronavirus update page. We are all working together to ensure our employees and those we serve follow all of the safety precautions to minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19.

We appreciate your continued partnership and wish you good health as we work together to make the best of this challenging time.

Scott Marquardt,
President, MTC
