After graduating from high school, why did Shakeel Semple enroll at the Brooklyn Job Corps Center?

“I came in to find advancement in my life” he says. “Such as going for a trade like homeland security.”

Shakeel earned advanced security and fire certifications from Brooklyn Job Corps.

“It was a steppingstone. I came in with discipline, but I needed that extra edge to help me get into the real workforce.”

He believes Job Corps gave him the credibility of work experience and internships. So, after he graduated in 2013, he quickly found good jobs. But Shakeel was just getting started.

“So, I have enlisted in the military. I’ll be shipping out shortly. The GI Bill, as you know, helps you and puts you through college. Also, the health benefits will help support my future family. I will take full advantage of everything the military has to offer.”

Shakeel believes he’s on the right track.

“Yes, I am very proud of where I am. Job Corps helped shape me. To be the man I am now. I would recommend Job Corps for people that are a little bit lost and people who have strayed off the path and just want to get back on the right path. So, they should come here and get their high school diploma and certifications. Everything is for free.”
