Sierra Nevada Job Corps students were recently honored at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada’s Awards & Recognition Dinner. Each year, the organization recognizes local groups for their support of the food bank. 

Out of the top 15 organizations, the Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center was ranked third in 2017 for the amount of time volunteered at the food bank.

Students and staff worked all year long sorting and packing food donations—providing 684 hours of service. 

 “After visiting the food bank, I realize just how important this work is for our community”, said Anna Fox, student government advisor and new food bank coordinator for the center, “and I also realize how caring our students can be when it comes to helping hungry people in dire need.” 

Maurquis Reliford, current student government association president, said simply of his service, “It’s the right thing to do, and I’ll keep doing it.”

The Food Bank serves 95,000 Northern Nevadans (half of them seniors and children) each month, the equivalent of 13,370,000 meals last year.
